1. Overview
Every email sent through GridMail includes an unsubscribe link. This policy explains what happens when someone uses it, and what GridMail customers need to do to stay compliant with anti-spam laws like the CAN-SPAM Act.
2. How a prospect unsubscribes
Any recipient of a GridMail-sent email can opt out at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in the message. No login or account is required, and the process takes a single click. Recipients can also reply directly to the sender asking to be removed, and GridMail customers are expected to honor that request the same way.
3. The suppression list
Once someone unsubscribes, their email address is added to a permanent suppression list tied to the sender's account. GridMail checks every new upload against this list, so a suppressed address will never receive another email through that account, even if it's uploaded again in a future campaign by mistake.
4. How quickly we act
Unsubscribe requests take effect immediately: the moment someone clicks the link, their address is suppressed and any scheduled follow-ups to them are cancelled. This is faster than the 10-business-day processing window required by the CAN-SPAM Act, since the whole process is automatic.
5. What senders are responsible for
GridMail provides the suppression infrastructure, but as the sender, you're responsible for using it properly. Under our Terms of Service, you agree to:
- Never remove or disable the unsubscribe link in a GridMail-generated email.
- Honor unsubscribe requests you receive directly (by reply or otherwise), not just ones submitted through the link.
- Identify yourself accurately in every email, consistent with CAN-SPAM's requirements around truthful header and subject-line information.
- Not re-upload or otherwise re-contact an address you know has opted out, outside of GridMail if applicable.
Repeated failure to honor unsubscribe requests is a violation of our Terms and may result in suspension of your account, since it puts the deliverability of every GridMail customer at risk.
6. Contact us
If you've unsubscribed from a GridMail-sent email and continue to receive messages, or if you have questions about this policy, reach out through the contact form on our homepage, or email us directly, and include the sender's address and the email you received so we can investigate.
